Meet one of Nigeria’s Sexiest: Gbenro Ajibade

By on March 24, 2012

First thing you notice about him is  his warm and exciting nature. Here is an insight into the fitness routine of the Kogi state born  lead actor of DSTV drama series- Tinsel , top Model, Tv presenter and Mr Handsome Gbenro Emmanuel Ajibade

UM-Life after and outside Tinsel?

Gbenro- Tinsel is still on. Of course, I have plans.  So far, so good, I can’t let it out of the bag yet.  Apart from modeling and acting, am also a tv presenter.  The last on I did was Calabar Rocks, that Calabar festival time, I covered it for thirty six days, both events and parties. I still do modeling and acting gigs. People believe Tinsel takes all the time. It doesn’t. Thing about tinsel is once you give them your schedule, they would always work around it.

UM How long have you been in the industry?

Gbenro: Modeling was what got me started in the industry. I never saw myself as an actor. Funny enough, modeling was what got me on Tinsel. It all started from some ‘Mr. Campus’ in my 200level in 2002. My friends pushed me to contest and treated me like a king. I graduated in 2005 and pursued this pastime.

UM:Hobbies?

Gbenro: I love playing video games and watching cartoons. I could play video games for a week nonstop.

UM:Fitness regime?

Gbenro: I practice Shotokan karate, I play basketball every Sunday, swim once a week and I workout everyday. Its addictive. I could wake up 2am and workout. It was getting too much and I was looking too huge on screen, especially for the over-the-shoulder shots. Now I do aerobics and use lighter weights.

UM: We saw you at the Arise Magazine Fashion Week (AMFW) 2012, what was the experience like?

Gbenro:  Its something I always wanted to do. Apparently, I had been missing it right from  when it started out as Thisday Fashion Show. This time around, I was lucky I was able to work around it. Even though the model’s call time was 9am and after every show, the fittings for the next day went on till 3am. After that, models would go to the hotel to sleep. I, on the other hand, would go freshen up and drive down to the mainland because Tinsel call time was 6am. I guess its all about one’s passion and I was enjoying it.

UM:How do you take care of your dreads?

Gbenro: mostly do it myself. I actually studied how they do it, online and in the salons. I used to braid my hair and when I got interested in dreads, I was hooked. I go to the salon once a week for  the interlocking.

UM:What’s your sense of style?

Gbenro:it depends on my mood. Its very organic. It boils down to me, how I feel.

UM:Who’s your favourite Nigerian designer?

Gbenro:  I love MAI (Mai Atafo Inspires). I love his designs. If I want to feel sexy, its MAI.

UM:Who’s your favourite international designer?

Gbenro:Now that I have seen him and his designs up close, I have to say Ozwald Boateng. He is on point. He gets me.

UM:What’s your kind of music?

Gbenro:Anything rap. Music with aggression. I like the adrenaline rush.

UM:So, are you an adrenaline junkie?

Gbenro:LOL!, I love the rush. I have a bike but my friends have taken it for my safety.

UM:Are you in a bike club?

Gbenro:Yes, I am. Easy riders bike club.

UM:What is that secret passion you have not exposed?

Gbenro:I would have loved to sing but I don’t have the voice. From my love of cartoons, video games and animation, I would like to create my cartoon, with characters based on the likes of Olu Jacobs.

UM:Favourite  actor (male)

Gbenro:Olu Jacobs

UM:Favourite actor (female)

Gbenro:Genevieve Nnaji

UM:Favourite travel destinations?

Gbenro:Jamaica, they do dreads like no other, am intrigued by their language  and their ladies.  I would also say, Cape town, South Africa and Brazil.

UM:Is there a special person somewhere?

Gbenro:Yes. Fullstop.

UM:Do you have anything to say to your adoring female fans?

Gbenro:I love them!
